Thank you for raising awareness!
At the age of 39, I was diagnosed with bi-lateral hip dysplasia. I had gotten to the point where I couldn't do daily life activities because of the pain in my hips. I was introduced to the top hip surgeon in the Country, Dr. Millis out of Children's Hospital Boston, and in 2014, he performed a PAO on my right hip (Periacetibular Osteotomy). This is a very invasive, long recovery surgery. After 7 hours of surgery, three cuts in my pelvis and 4 screws, I began the recovery process. I spent 6 days in the hospital, with multiple drug complications. Once home, I was rushed back to the hospital via ambulance. Two years later, I am still working on rehabbing the muscles and nerves that were cut and reattached. However, I am now able to move about and do my daily activities pain free, as well as starting to run again :)!
My hopes in raising money and awareness is for there to be early screening and detection, so that no one has to go through this invasive surgery as an adult.
