Team Harper's Fundraising Page
Harper was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia when she was minutes old. She has been in bracing/harnesses/casts since birth. Her left hip corrected itself with the Pavlik Harness. Harper has had 4 Operating Room procedures since she was 4 months old. She had an open reduction and spica cast placement on March 17, 2015, with a repeat procedure the next day due to dislocation. She then dislocated 2 more times during the repeat procedure. Although Harper has the most unstable hip that her doctor has seen, she is doing amazingly well at 3 years old . She is running, jumping and tumbling all over the place, There is a very good chance that she will need a pelvic osteotomy in the next 1-2 years. I honestly don’t know where we would be without the early detection and treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital as well as all of the resources that I found from the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Please help to support these wonderful organizations as we will be in the care of Boston Children’s for many years to come.

About Hip Hop 5k/10k
Help us reach our fundraising goal by race day!! The Hip Hop 5K/10K works with the Hip Program at Boston Childrens and seeks to raise awareness and funding for all those battling hip dysplasia from new borns to adults. Hip Dysplasia affects thousands of people each year from newborns to adult and is the #1 cause of hip arthritis. It is a painful process where the ball slips in and out of the socket, which causes the hip to wear out much faster than normal. Think of a car's tires and how they wear out faster when the car is out of alignment. Surgery to treat the condition is long, painful, and invasive and multiple surgeries are needed more often than not. Life- long disability can result and regardless of the length of treatment, the financial, emotional, and physical impact on families and patients is severe. More than 90% of the young and older adult cases can't be diagnosed in childhood by the current methods of screening and the three most common words heard in the process of treating hip dysplasia are "I don't know." The Hip Hop 5K seeks to play a lead roll in changing that.
