About Color Outside-Run for Brown School
Our mission is to inspire each student to love learning while striving for academic excellence. Brown School’s teachers work to identify and develop the strengths of individual students, thereby stimulating discovery, imagination, and critical thinking. Small classes, a dedicated staff, and an innovative curriculum combine to motivate children to reach their potential, both academically and socially. The private school’s nurturing environment supports a diverse student community and encourages confident, articulate learners, who are disciplined, responsible, and respectful of others.
Helen “Nellie” Brown founded Brown School in 1893 as an alternative to public schools. She envisioned a school where an individualized approach to learning would foster self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, and a life-long love of learning. Brown School students would be well prepared for further studies, having received a solid foundation in fundamental subjects. Regardless of the changes through which Brown School has passed over more than a century, we have never lost sight of Helen Brown’s vision.
Brown School, a non-sectarian independent private school in Schenectady, New York, has an absolute charter by the New York State Board of Regents and is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools. School policy is determined by the Board of Trustees and implemented by the Head of School and Brown School staff members.
