Hi everyone, not many of you may know, but in July 2017 my family lost someone very important to us to a long battle with substance abuse. My cousin Michael was one of the funniest people with the biggest heart I had known growing up, and seeing the grip that substance abuse had on him was truly heartbreaking for our family.
I truly wish there was more open and honest communication regarding struggling with substance abuse, making it easier for someone struggling to open up with what they are battling. I feel too many people push past the struggle without feeling that they have the ability to open up about what they are struggling with, especially men. "Man up" should be a term of the past, as well as the stigma that comes along with talking about what you are struggling with.
Someone else very close to me is currently struggling with substance abuse, and has had a hard time being open and honest with his struggles, and if I can in any way help to end that stigma and help him to open up about what he is struggling with and help lead him to a healthier happier lifestyle, I will do everything humanly possible to do that.
