About This Event
Strength Over Silence (SOS) invites people of all ages to participate in the First Annual Walk for Wellness. The goal of SOS is to raise public awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. SOS is a student-led organization, developed and executed by the award-winning Future Problem Solvers Club at San Juan Hills High School.
The Walk for Wellness features a walk on the peaceful and scenic San Juan Hills High School track from 8:00 am to Noon. Although participants will set their own pace and duration, we encourage everyone to try to complete at least 12 laps (3 miles). This fun and educational event will include:
*Free "R U Ok?" book written by Kristi Hugstad
*Live music by Los Rios Rock School
During the event, SOS will be handing out blue and purple satin ribbons and beads that participants can wear in honor of a friend or family member who has been impacted by mental illness.
Proceeds raised from the Walk will be donated to St. Joseph's Hospital and used to support the Future Problem Solver Club at San Juan Hills High School.
The walk will take place at the track at San Juan Hills High School.
Awards will be given to teams with the most spirited themes and costumes. Awards will be provided by our generous sponsors.
If participants register by February 8th, they will be given a custom t-shirt at the event!
Participants will be given raffle tickets for walking around the track and engaging in the activity booths. The raffled items are from the following generous sponsors: Orange Theory, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ellie's Table, Chick-Fil-A, Ocean Physical Therapy, Nekter, Target, the San Juan Hills Golf Club, and Coffee Importers. Winners will be drawn, and you must be present to win.
Donations can be made at our website: https://www.strengthoversilence.net or at the event. All donations will be tax deductible. Money raised from the Walk for Wellness will be used to support St. Joseph's Hospital and Mental Health Ward.
