20+ and 30+ Mile Bike Ride
The 20 mile route is geared towards families and casual riders. A major portion of the 20 mile ride will be along the LA River on the LA River Bike Path which is away from traffic and will have great views of the LA River. A 10 mile per hour pace is advised for this route.
The 30+ mile route will feature challenging hills in Elysian Park, Griffith Park, and a loop around the Silverlake Reservoir. There will be some great view spots along the way. Bring your hill climbing legs for this route. There will be some elevation to accomplish! The 30+ mile ride will be completely on city streets.
A rest stop, where water, snacks, and fruits will be available, is located at approximately the midpoint of the route. Porta- potties are located at the rest stops.
There will be a free Bag Check and Bike Valet near the registration area. All registered riders will be given a finisher medal at the conclusion of the ride. A carbo load snack will be available at the conclusion of the ride. All registered riders will get a Goodie Bag with various items and an event t-shirt. 5K Run/Walk
The 5K run/walk is an out and back course that takes participants past the main entrance to Dodger Stadium. The course begins on North Broadway for approximately 1/3 mile, then turns left onto Bishops Road. An immediate right turn at Stadium Way takes you under the 110 freeway toward Dodger Stadium for about a 1 mile uphill climb.
This distance includes a right at Lookout Dr., then onto Lilac Terrace which leads again onto Stadium Way. A U-turn a little past Elysian Park Ave. brings you past the LAFD Hotchkin training center with the piece of the World Trade Center brought here as a memorial.
The 23-ton, 22-foot-tall steel column originally was part of the lobby structure, now stands a reminder. North Broadway leads back to Chinatown and the finish line. Water is provided at 2 points along this 5K course.
10K Run/Walk
The 10K course is a challenging run through the hills of Elysian Park. From N. Broadway, the course climbs up into the park to its highest elevation. The course winds high over the Figueroa Tunnels above the 110 freeway, through tree-lined rolling hills with the summit of Angels Point providing a spectacular 180-degree view of the city.
The early morning vistas of Downtown LA, Glendale, Mt Wilson, Hollywood Sign, Dodger’s Stadium, & LAPD Academy are the hard earned and breathtaking sights of the 10K course that very few Angelenos will ever see.
As the course descends the hills of Elysian Park, the course leads you past the Grace E. Simmons lodge, named for the activist who was instrumental in saving the area from developers and creating Elysian Park. As you run down the palm tree lined road of Stadium Way, it leads you past the entrance to the Montecillo De Leo Politi Park. A smaller park within Elysian Park.
This park was named after a children’s book author who spent his years illustrating and writing children’s books. His murals can be found in Olvera Street, the birthplace of Los Angeles. Many of his paintings and drawings still adorn elementary schools and public libraries throughout the United States. Continuing on Stadium Way brings you to LAFD Hotchkin training center with the piece of the World Trade Center brought here as a memorial. The 23-ton, 22-foot-tall steel column originally was part of the lobby structure, now stands a reminder. The course continues under the 110 freeway back to Broadway where the finish line awaits those who survived this beautiful and challenging course.
Kiddie Run
Event begins with warm up exercises and a short discussion about exercising and the importance of reading. The course features a turnaround at Bishops Road, then back to the official finish line. Upon crossing the finish line, each runner will be given a commemorative finisher medal, and then directed to a carnival in the Kiddie Run area for all registered Kiddie Run participants from 7-11 AM, with carnival games, face painting, petting zoo, puppet show, etc. A goodie bag awaits all Kiddie Run registrants.
