About the CMS Webster O'Brien 5k
Webster O'Brien was a beloved member of our community. He is the father of two CMS alums, husband of a former CMS teacher, and served as chairman of the board for four years. Webster believed strongly in Montessori education and our school would not be what it is today without his leadership and guiding hand. He was also instrumental in developing the athletics program, and so the 5k was started as a way to honor Webster and build on his legacy. All proceeds from the 5k will go toward the Webster O'Brien Travel Scholarship Fund. A travel stipend will be given annually to a CMS alum that has graduated from our middle school program. We were able to give a $1500 travel stipend to last year's scholarship winner, and are looking to build on that this year with even more participants.
The CMS Webster O'Brien 5k will take place within the confines of Danehy Park. Danehy has always been a central part of the CMS experience, and our 5k will take advantage of our close connection to the park. The route will be a loop that circles the park three times before the final sprint to the finish.
Prizes will be given according to age and gender. Stay tuned and check this space for more details!
Each participant will also receive a "swag bag" full of goodies from local community businesses.
*While supplies last. Registrations the day of the event will not be guaranteed a swag bag.
Each runner will receive a T-shirt for their participation. The t-shirts are high quality synthetic running shirts and will be available in both children and adult sizes.
*While supplies last. Registrations the day of the event will not be guaranteed a shirt.
Bibs can be picked up the day of the race, from 9:00-9:45 at the table in Danehy Park. In addition bibs will be available at the front desk of the Cambridge Montessori School elementary building (129 Sherman St., Cambridge, MA - entrance on Bellis Circle) from 3:15-4:00 pm the day prior to the race (Friday May 19th).
Danehy Park is located in the heart of West Cambridge, in between Porter Sq., Harvard Sq., and Fresh Pond. There are several parking lots available. On Sherman St. there is a lot across from 96 Sherman St., as well as one by the St. Peter's baseball field. In addition, the CMS parking lot is located by the train tracks just past Jose's Restaurant, and has ample parking in the back of the lot (the front is used by the restaurant). There is another lot on Garden St. next to our Toddler Primary building (161 Garden St.) from which the 5k will be a 5 minute walk.
