About this Event
Win your age group, take home a lucky horseshoe!
Join in on the fun in the eighth annual, 4th of July Pre-Parade 5K or the 10k EPIC CHALLENGE Cross-Country Race thru our unique rural and picturesque Orange Park Acres neighborhood, where horses are the spectators! We are a little bit of country surrounded by the city. Race participants pass horse pastures, unusual farm animals, and miniature horses if they keep a sharp eye.
The races begin and end at the intersection of Orange Park Blvd at Frank Street - in front of Salem Lutheran Church and School.
The family friendly 5k closely follows the "4th of July" Parade route - a 50-year tradition which begins just after the races end. Runners and walkers of all ages and skill level are welcome and it's stroller friendly as well. We have participants from 3 to over 80 years old. There is a bit of a hill towards the end to challenge runners on all levels! We ask for no pets on the race course for their safety as well as the safety of other participants. You are more than welcome to walk your pets in the parade following the race.
The 10k Epic Challenge Cross Country is an idyllic setting but is a more challenging course, not for the weak of knees or ankles as it traverses multiple trail surfaces that range from dirt (possibly rutted by animals or weather) to deep mulch and/or deep sand. There are steep vertical grade changes, a water crossing or two, as well as some road running.
Race Particulars
The 10K course must be completed within 90 minutes (by 9am), and the timing stops for the 5K at 9am so the parade can get underway.
Parking is available at the Mara Brandman Horse Arena on Santiago Canyon Road, or on N. Nicky Way adjacent to Arena parking lot.
For the safety of your pet and others, please no Pets on the Race Courses. Your welcome to walk your pets in the parade that follows the race.
Running strollers, and youth of all ages are welcome.
Bring your chairs along and find a spot on the parade route to enjoy the 4th of July Parade which immediately follows the 5K - or plan to be a participant in the fun http://racewire.com/images/save.pngand entertaining Parade.
