Event Information
For over forty years, Alternative House (www.alternative-house.org) has been a cornerstone in providing comprehensive domestic violence services in the Greater Lowell area. Since our establishment in 1978, we have served thousands of survivors of domestic violence. Our array of services includes emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline, temporary safe housing, transitional/permanent housing, legal advocacy, supervised visitation services, community/housing advocacy, support groups, youth and teen programming, as well as daily access to case management, safety planning, and support around goal setting, financial empowerment, and job/educational placement.
Our inaugural Healing Steps Road Race (though we have run many successful years of the Thanks 4 Giving Road Race) is held to raise funds to benefit survivors of domestic violence. It is a meaningful and impactful event that brings people together for a common cause.
Along the way, volunteers cheer on the racers, offering water stations and encouragement to keep everyone motivated.
The importance of supporting survivors of domestic violence cannot be overstated. Domestic violence affects individuals and families in profound ways, causing physical and emotional harm that can have lasting effects. By participating in events like this road race and walk, communities come together to raise awareness, show solidarity with survivors, and raise funds for crucial support services such as shelters, counseling, legal aid, and advocacy.

Ultimately, the road race and walk for survivors of domestic violence is a testament to the strength of the community and the belief that positive change is possible when we come together with compassion and determination. It's a celebration of resilience, hope, and the collective effort to create a safer, more supportive world for everyone.
I know that participating in the Healing Steps Road Race is a potentially hazardous activity, and I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. I acknowledge and assume any and all risks associated with this event, including, but not limited to, traffic on the course route, falls, contact with other participants, and the condition of the course, including, but not limited to, curbs, cars, uneven pavement, potholes, rocks, and objects on the course surface. Knowing and appreciating these risks and in consideration of your acceptance of my entry, I hereby, for myself, my heirs, representatives, or anyone else claiming on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge Alternative House, its volunteers, and sponsors, and anyone else acting for or on behalf the Healing Steps Road Race from any and all claims of liability for death, personal injury, or damage of any kind arising out of my participation in this run. This Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability extends to all claims of every kind whatsoever. I also consent to emergency treatment in the event of injury or illness. I grant full permission to Alternative House and/or any person or entity authorized by it to use my name, age, date of birth, finish place, and finish time in the public domain. I further grant full permission for Alternative House to use any photographs, recordings, or any other record of this event for any purpose.
