I think back on my life and I am fortunate to be able to recall a few key mentors that I have had that helped me to get to where I am today. This was in addition to the loving support of my family and friends. For most youth in foster care their lives are upended by trauma and then continued for years by transition. Through this trauma and transition, many of these youth are unable to have even one consistent adult relationship in their lives. This is where BEST Kids comes in. We match these young people with caring adults that help them to navigate the challenges of growing up and support them through the transitions and trials they face in the foster care system. Mentoring makes a huge difference in their ability to succeed and enjoy their years of youth. Our 2017 Superhero 5K & Fun Run is a celebration of the everyday heroes that make a positive impact in the lives of youth in DCs foster care system. BEST Kids is a nonprofit mentoring organization that empowers youth in foster care to build better futures, one child at a time.
