As many of you know, our sweet Delilah was born with a genetic syndrome called Cri du Chat Syndrome (5p- Syndrome). Delilah and other children with 5p- Syndrome have a deletion on their number five chromosome that causes various delays and difficulties. For Delilah specifically, she has delays in her speech and language, overactive tone in her muscles which make it difficult for her to learn to walk, hearing loss and trouble gaining weight. Even with her daily struggles, Delilah is still the happiest and sweetest little girl and she is making great improvements every day!
To help spread awareness during National Cri du Chat Awareness Week (May 3-9, 2015), the 5p- Society is holding a Virtual 5k. You can register for the 5k (walk or run) and help shine a bright light on this rare syndrome. During this week we will be doing all that we can, including the Virtual 5k, to bring positive attention to 5p- Syndrome and those affected by it. We understand that not everyone will be able to participate in the 5k, but we would love it if you could help in anyway that you are able. All donations are appreciated and all proceeds will go to the 5p- Society to continue research and spreading awareness for 5p- Syndrome.

About Virtual 5k for 5p-
Each year in the United States, approximately 50 to 60 children are born with 5p- Syndrome (five p minus), also known as Cat Cry Syndrome or Cri du Chat Syndrome. 5p- Syndrome is characterized at birth by a high pitched cry, low birth weight, poor muscle tone, microcephaly, and potential medical complications. "5p-" is a term used by geneticists to describe a portion of chromosome number five that is missing in these individuals. 5p deletion is a spectrum disorder. Founded in 1986, the 5p- Society's mission is to encourage and facilitate communication among families having a child with 5p- Syndrome and also to spread awareness and education of the syndrome to these families and their service providers. As the society continues to forge a path ahead for the awareness, advocacy, and support of our families with Cri Du Chat, we continue to need financial support. The financial support that the society gains will allow more families to be touched positively as our loved ones grow and develop. Your support and participation in the Virtual 5k for 5p- is appreciated! The 5p- Society is a recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
