About Virtual 5k for 5p-
Each year in the United States, approximately 50 to 60 children are born with 5p- Syndrome (five p minus), also known as Cat Cry Syndrome or Cri du Chat Syndrome. 5p- Syndrome is characterized at birth by a high pitched cry, low birth weight, poor muscle tone, microcephaly, and potential medical complications. "5p-" is a term used by geneticists to describe a portion of chromosome number five that is missing in these individuals. 5p deletion is a spectrum disorder.
Founded in 1986, the 5p- Society's mission is to encourage and facilitate communication among families having a child with 5p- Syndrome and also to spread awareness and education of the syndrome to these families and their service providers.
As the society continues to forge a path ahead for the awareness, advocacy, and support of our families with Cri Du Chat, we continue to need financial support. The financial support that the society gains will allow more families to be touched positively as our loved ones grow and develop.
