About The Bat Run
Join us as we HERO UP in the fight against Childhood Cancer! Superheroes unite at The Bat Run, a 5K run/walk on September 16th, 2018 in Middleborough, Massachusetts. The run is hosted by The Jesse Heikkila Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization created in memory of Jesse. Jesse died at the tender age of 7 after battling stage IV Neuroblastoma cancer since his 3rd birthday. Our mission is to raise funds for childhood cancer research, so no other parents have to bury a child. 100% of proceeds go to the cause, as our foundation is 100% volunteer run. Childhood cancer research receives less than 4% of federal funding, resulting in many families hearing the news “I am sorry, there is no cure for your child”. This needs to change. Seven children die every day in the United States alone. We are raising funds to support a national collaborative effort of researchers, oncologists and family advocates to bring forward new therapies for children. To date, we have raised over $165,000 for clinical trials that are having incredible outcomes offering hope. More information is available at our website www.jesse.foundation. “The Bat Run”, named to honor Jesse’s love of Batman encourages participants to dress as their favorite super hero. We selected September as it is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
