You may have heard of the Man in the Red Bandana. On 9/11, Welles Crowther led a number of fellow civilians out of the South Tower and into safety, sacrificing his own. I learned of Welles only this year, hearing memorial reports of his heroics while sitting on the couch with my daughters on 9/11. His story struck them (5 and 8) to their core. How could someone be okay to die for a bunch of people he didn't even know? I learned a lot about Welles this year, including that he was a fellow BC grad and that I had spent months working out alongside his sister at my local gym. The 5k is an opportunity to honor his memory, support the charitable trust founded in his name, and spread his story. Now more than ever, we could use the sprit of more heroes.
