Foster Parrots is an amazing organization that I used to volunteer for weekly. Since we moved 100 miles away I have had to settle for helping at events and supporting from afar. The sanctuary provides homes to hundreds of parrots as well as a collection of other creatures. On April 1st, they suffered a devastating fire. They lost about a third of their facility and almost 100 animals. Many of these were birds I have known for 7 years. Friends I have played with, held, sang to, talked to, fed and cared for. Thanks to a first rate alarm system and the dedicated fire fighters, over 300 birds and the rest of the facility was saved.
The sanctuary is and has always been all about the birds. Many people don't realize how intelligent and long-lived these creatures are. Sadly, this means they often outlive their owner's attention spans or life spans and have nowhere to go. Foster Parrots gives these birds a comfortable home and, when possible, can even match them with a new human companion. Donations in any amount will help ensure that the sanctuary can rebuild while continuing to do their great work and have the capacity to help the continual flow of orphaned animals.
