About Run for Runway
Runway for Recovery was founded in 2007 by Olivia Achtmeyer Boger, six years after her mother passed away from breast cancer. What was originally intended to be a one-time fundraiser has now grown into a full-time, 501(c)3 organization. Our mission is rooted in the understanding that no one experiences breast cancer alone, and that there are ways to ease the burden of this disease on parents, children, caregivers, and loved ones.
For seventeen years, Runway for Recovery has provided patients and families with a continuum of support along their journey with breast cancer. Runway creates community by hosting events and providing services that create joy and inspire hope. With shared understanding they celebrate survivors, honor legacies and fund families who have experienced loss.
The funds raised at the Run for Runway will benefit the Runway for Recovery Family Grants program, specifically the Linda K. Cohen Tuition Fund. The financial burden of a cancer diagnosis or loss of a parent can upend a child’s educational trajectory, whether because of financial limitations, a move to a new district, or other unforeseen circumstances. The Linda K. Cohen Fund was established to help children in a "make-or-break" educational situation to help those in need of an alternative educational environment.
