Sometimes the most beautiful blessings come when you're least expecting it!

Jayci (now 7) was born June 28, 2007 - a day that completely changed our lives! Although something always felt a little off, I wasn't at all prepared for the news that I was about to get. We spent 3 weeks in the NICU before Jayci was officially diagnosed with Cri du Chat Syndrome. I had never heard of it and had no clue what it meant for Jayci. I spent numerous hours trying to research 5p- and yet it was so rare, I was only able to get the basic information. We are still learning so much to this day.

Jayci's Cri du Chat Syndrome was determined through genetic testing to be spontaneous, meaning neither parent carried the gene and it just happened. In our eyes, this makes Jayci even more rare and a blessing to our family! She is tiny, stubborn, and the most beautiful little princess! She has taught us more in the short 7 years she's been on Earth than a lifetime of research could ever do!

About Virtual 5k for 5p-
Each year in the United States, approximately 50 to 60 children are born with 5p- Syndrome (five p minus), also known as Cat Cry Syndrome or Cri du Chat Syndrome. 5p- Syndrome is characterized at birth by a high pitched cry, low birth weight, poor muscle tone, microcephaly, and potential medical complications. "5p-" is a term used by geneticists to describe a portion of chromosome number five that is missing in these individuals. 5p deletion is a spectrum disorder. Founded in 1986, the 5p- Society's mission is to encourage and facilitate communication among families having a child with 5p- Syndrome and also to spread awareness and education of the syndrome to these families and their service providers. As the society continues to forge a path ahead for the awareness, advocacy, and support of our families with Cri Du Chat, we continue to need financial support. The financial support that the society gains will allow more families to be touched positively as our loved ones grow and develop. Your support and participation in the Virtual 5k for 5p- is appreciated! The 5p- Society is a recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
