On Sunday September 22nd our family will be participating in the Charles River Center Road Race. There is a 5K Run or a 1 Mile walk. As you may or may not know our daughter/sister Patti is mentally disabled. Patti is the happiest most selfless loving person. She loves her family and friends and would love everyone to come out and run/walk with her.
The Charles River Center is an integral part of all our lives as it brings structure support and caring to Patti in a very meaningful and personal way.
The Charles River Center is a nonprofit social service agency that has been providing advocacy and a variety of services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families since 1956. The members include people with developmental disabilities, their families and friends, volunteers and many other people from the communities they serve.
The Charles River Center supports Patti in many ways particularly:
· Employment Support – The Charles River Center transports Patti to work at Olin College each day along with providing a job coach to help her be successful at her job.
· Volunteer Activities – The Charles River Center arranges for Patti to experience a number of meaningful volunteer engagements including the ones she loves best at Buddy Dogs and at Newton Wellesley Hospital.
· Social Opportunities – The Charles River Center provides Patti multiple opportunities to socially integrate with her pears through Special Olympics, weekly trips and other Day program activities.
· Supportive Housing – The Charles River Center supervises and provides staff at Patti’s apartment without which Patti would have much less independence.
We invite our friends and friends to join us running or walking in support of Patti and Charles River. If you can't walk and would like to make a donation please follow the below link.
We thank you all in advance for supporting a cause that is very important to us. We appreciate your love and support.
