Newton Turkey Trot Mission
The mission of the Newton Turkey Trot is to increase our youth’s awareness of health, wellness and community service. Our goals for the 2019 race are twofold. First, we are continuing our partnership with the Newton Food Pantry and aiming to raise $10,000 to support families over the Thanksgiving holiday. Each month, the Newton Food Pantry provides a five-day supply of nutritionally-balanced free food and personal care products to approximately 750 Newton residents who cannot afford enough to eat.
Our second goal is to partner with the Travis Roy Foundation to raise a further $10,000 for the Ethan Wang Fund. This fund has been created by the Travis Roy Foundation in support of Ethan Wang, a Newton South High School alumnus and a Boston University political science student who survived severe spinal damage on March 3, 2019. This special fund reflects the mission of the Travis Roy Foundation to help victims of spinal cord injuries achieve independence and to enjoy lives as full and complete as possible. The funds raised will be applied in such areas as medical and rehabilitative therapies, adaptive equipment and spinal cord research. Thank you for supporting these worthy causes.
