Each team is required to make a mandatory donation of $150 to the American Liver Foundation to cover for the volunteers they are providing for the event. Details on making the donation will be sent to the team captain after they have registered their team. Please do not make a donation on your own without these instructions, as you will not receive credit for that donation.
Every runner receives a race t-shirt and a finisher's prize. In addition, every runner gets the opportunity to participate in the inaugural New England Relay, running across all six New England states.
Race Categories
There are four race categories in which a team can run:
Mixed 12 Person: Mix of men and women, minimum of 6 women
Women's 12 Person: Mostly women, minimum of 10 women
Men's 12 Person: Mostly men
Ultra 6 Person: No more than 6 runners, gender irrelevant
The team captain can personally change the race category anytime before registration closes. Once registration is closed, an email must be sent to the race director to request the change. You may email us at info@newenglandrelay.com.
There is also a bonus division built into the race! On every team, there are two runners who will run a marathon over the course of the relay (only applies to 12 person teams). These runners will be competing against each other for the "fastest marathon time."
Individual Registration Deadline (i.e. adding yourself to a team)
Individual registration closes on June 1, 2013. Once individual registration is closed, any changes or additions to the team can be made on the day of the event at check-in. Please note that correct t-shirt sizes for additions to the team after this date are not guaranteed.
Limit on Number of Teams
We will limit the number of teams to 100. Please register early to reserve your team's spot.
Prizes
As mentioned above, every runner receives a finisher's prize. Usually this is a medal, but we have a unique and special surprise for you instead!
The team that has the fastest overall time in each of the four divisions (Mixed 12, Women's 12, Men's 12, and Ultra 6) will each receive free entry into the following year's edition of the New England Relay.
For the marathon division, the man and woman with the fastest overall times will each receive a goodie bag of marathon training equipment.
Special Team Requirement
Because of the extended length of the course (its the longest 24-hour distance relay in the U.S.!), it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that teams average a pace of 9 minutes per mile in order to complete the event while the finish line is still open. This does not mean all runners on a team must run faster than 9 minute pace. In fact, you could easily have a 10:00 pace runner and a 7:00 pace runner on the same team. It just means that the average pace of all runners over the course of their legs should be 9:00 minutes/mile or faster. Should your team run a pace slower than this during the event, your team will be asked to have your resting van start their legs before the active van meets you at the next van transition.
