Dog on Leash Safety Policy
Participants with dogs must have their dogs on leashes; they will be required to start toward the rear of the assembled group of participants. Participants with dogs must be 18 years or older, and must take full responsibility for the safe and congenial conduct of their dogs at all times, including during race day registration and post-race award ceremony. Participants with dogs must not interfere with the progress of any participant in the race, must exhibit caution around spectators, and must be especially attentive around children. The Longfellow "February Frostbite" maintains the right to remove any participant with dog that violates or appears to present the potential of violating our dog safety policy. Participants with dogs on leashes will not be eligible for prizes in finishing speed, but are eligible alone for prize in the Longfellow "Faithful Hound" Look-alike category.
Walkers and Child Stroller Policy
Walking participants and child strollers are welcome in this event. Timing of all participants will end at 8:30 AM.
Race Day Registration
Race day registration begins at 6:30 AM and ends at 7:30 AM. The location of race day registration is the Portland High School Gymnasium on Chestnut St., between Cumberland and Congress Streets.

8 and under; 9–13; 14–17; 18–29; 30–39; 40–49; 50–59; 60–69; 70+
Prizes
Prizes: one pair of running shoes to top male/female from Maine Running Company; four $25 gift certificates to Maine Running Company; 22 $10 gift certificates to Longfellow Books; 10 $5 gift certificates to Arabica Coffee; gift tickets to The Longfellow Choral Festival Concerts and others. Prize Categories: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male/Female Overall; First in Age Group; Best Victorian Dress (adult and youth categories); Best Longfellow Look-alike (adult, youth and "faithful hound" categories).
Portland Stage Company Street-Side Poetry Readings
Portland Stage Company's affiliated artists, including Master of Ceremonies and Official Starter Daniel Noel, will read poetry street-side during the race, and judge the winners in the most imaginative Victorian winter costume and best Longfellow look-alike categories.
