Event Information
About the Event
The Battle of Noddle Regatta & Re-enactment is an event to commemorate the Battle of Noddle Island, also called the Battle of Chelsea Creek, which was the 2nd military engagement of the American Revolutionary War that occurred around the shores of East Boston on May 26 & 27, 1775. This event was crucial to breaking the Siege of Boston helping to kickstart Colonial independence from the British Crown. The regatta will depart from LoPresti Park with kayaks and canoes where community participants will paddle down the East Boston waterfront to the Chelsea Creek Urban Wild. At the Urban Wild, we will have a fun community 'Revolutionary re-enactment' with the children, a barbecue cook-out, a Grand Union flag-raising and learn to kayak lessons.
10am Kayak from Lo Presti to Condor St. Urban Wild
We will be kayaking 1.6 miles from Lo Presti park located at 33 Sumner St., East Boston, to the Condor St. Urban Wild (see map for details). This can be a challenging ride especially depending on the weather. We encourage that you participate in this ride if you have kayaking experience. Please be advised that this is salt water kayaking and there are possibilities of large boats passing creating large waves.
NOAH has a limited number of kayak spots available, and you can also bring your own kayak.
12-2pm Learn to Kayak at Condor St. Urban Wild
At the Condor St. Urban Wild, located at 255 Condor St., East Boston MA, we will be hosting "learn to kayak" lessons on the Chelsea Creek. Basic instruction from experienced kayakers will be provided. Sign ups will occur on site on the day of the event.
2pm Battle of Noddle Island Re-enactment at Condor St. Urban Wild
Community members will participate in re-enacting the Battle of Noddle Island. There will be a brief history of the event, a flag raising, and a barbecue!
