Event Information
About the PTO
The PTO is a group of parent, staff and community volunteers who organize fundraisers and sponsor school events to benefit the students at Sweetsir and Donaghue schools. Every penny from the money raised goes toward the schools, teachers and ultimately OUR children! The PTO has appropriated over $15,000 during the 2016-2017 school year! Everything from musical instruments and paper cutters, to travel costs for field trips and field day t-shirts are all made possible by the PTO!! The PTO supports our children every day.
Here are a few of the things the PTO does
- Organizes extra-curricular enrichment activities for students
- Plans budget-friendly family fun events throughout the year
- Organizes fundraising events to supply resource materials for our teachers and their classroom

In addition to the division prizes we will have two raffles and to make it easier you can buy your tickets right here while registering!
A classic 50/50 raffle, who doesn't love cash?! And a 2nd raffle for tons of great gift cards. Keep an eye on the facebook page for the full list but just to name a few: Osaka, Merrimac House of Pizza, DeLeo's, Skin Essentials, Newburyport Brewing, Luxe Salon, Transformation Day Spa, York's Wild Animal Kingdom...the list goes on!!
We are super excited to put on the best fundraiser and really kick off the school year on the right foot!
Fun Run and 5k Course
We will start with the kid's fun run, open and free to all children. We've added a registration choice for this so that we can be ready with prizes, but day of check-in for the kids is also available. The fun run will be from the start to the finish line, as they over lap for the official 5k. But it will take place all right at Donaghue, immediately following the OHD "Everything on Wheels" Parade.
For the 5k -Our course will take you through the side roads of our little town, showcasing both of our elementary schools that we are raising money to support!
Starting by the tennis courts of the Donaghue Elementary School, the race will run immediately past the finish line, on past the set up of Old Home Days on Steven's Field, turning onto Locust St toward 110. Where we will cross over 110 to Woodland St, taking the first right onto Grove Street, here there is a great downhill! Grove St to Church St, then right up to the Sweetsir School where the water station will be. Past Sweetsir to the U turn onto Winter St and back down to turn right onto Grove St. To Orchard left toward 110, cross 110 to Union St and back to the front of Donaghue!
It might sound confusing but check out our facebook page for a map that shows it is really just a loop.
Parking
Parking will be a little difficult in the area as there isn't a single large lot. There is a small lot at the Donaghue School and two municiple lots on School St near the town square that isn't a far walk. Additional parking would be on the side streets surrounding the school. We ask that ALL drivers be especially cautious when leaving the area as there will be a lot of families and children in the area with Old Home Days kicking off.
Old Home Days
OHD is a years old event in the town of Merrimac. A fun filled family day of free events! It takes place on the 2nd Saturday of August every year. And the Merrimac PTO Family 5k will kick it off this year!
I know most runners don't carry cash but there will be a craft fair this year and, as always, the food vendors! It is always a great time for the family, so bring yours to cheer you on and then stick around for some fun.
