About this event
The Western Greenway 5K is a trail route starting and finishing at Elsie Turner Field on Trapelo Road in Waltham. All funds raised from the WGT will benefit the Waltham Land Trust and the RAW Series. The Waltham Land Trust's mission is to create a legacy of land conservation in Waltham by promoting, protecting, restoring, and acquiring open space. WLT envisions growth in public appreciation of natural resources, preservation and restoration of native habitat, and increased biodiversity to foster a healthier environment. The WGT is proud to be part of the Race Around Waltham (RAW) Series which encourages participation in all Waltham races and tracks runners, walkers and volunteers for prizes. Runners and walkers welcome -- tell your friends and bring the kids!
The Western Greenway 5K is trail route starting and finishing at Elsie Turner Field on Trapelo Road in Waltham. The Western Greenway features miles of trails and old carriage roads which loop through a variety of habitats: including cattail marshes, red maple swamps, mature oak-hickory forests, vernal pools, new forests, and open meadows. The course is rocky and unpaved, therefore strollers or baby joggers are not allowed on the course.
Parking - Very Important
Parking Area One is at the National Archives Center on Trapelo Road and along the access road. A Waltham Police Officer will be available for participants to cross Trapelo Road at a designated point.
Parking Area Two is at the Fernald School near the Shriver Medical Building about 1/2 Mile from the start. This will be a good warmup.
Notice: Parking will not be allowed in the neighborhood area and if vehicles are blocking access for emergency vehicles they will be towed at the owners expense.
