Gándara Center’s mission is to promote the well-being of Hispanics, African Americans and other culturally diverse populations through innovative, culturally competent behavioral health, prevention and education services. Established in 1977, Gándara Center provides services to nearly 15,000 children, adults, and families each year at more than 100 locations across the state of Massachusetts.
Gándara’s efforts to fill the gaps in services for society’s most vulnerable populations have taken the agency to new places and new initiatives over the years. Its many services include maintaining residential homes for youth and adults transitioning back to the community from homelessness, incarceration, substance use disorder and other mental illnesses. In fact, Gándara Center is the largest provider of DCF group homes in western Massachusetts. The agency also offers adult residential services for developmentally disabled individuals and runs such family support programs at the Springfield Family Resource Center which houses a food pantry and helps persons served to navigate through housing, education, and the legal system.
The agency also operates run a foster-care program and peer recovery support centers in Brockton, Holyoke, Hyannis, Plymouth and Springfield.
