About Bridge the Gap
Bridge the Gap Race starts at historical Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine and crosses the scenic Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Both the 5k and 10 mile courses follow the roads around Verona Island. The race is sponsored by a local, nonprofit, all-volunteer RRCA Running Club. The race supports scholarships for Maine student runners/athletes. Bring your friends! Cross that bridge! Both the 5k and the 10 mile course are chip timed.
Family 1 mile Fun Run
We encourage runners of all ages and abilities to participate, and we created the 1 mile Fun Run to make it easy for beginners to join the fun on race day. PLEASE NOTE: Children 12 and under are required to have an adult runner with them at all times. No strollers, no pets. And we must discourage you from walking across the bridge -- at least a jog or a shuffle is preferred.

Directions & Parking -- BIG CHANGE THIS YEAR!
Bridge the Gap Race starts at Fort Knox in Prospect, but PLEASE do not park at the Fort. The incredibly snowy winter has made it impossible to park cars at the Fort in 2015. Please start your race morning at Bucksport Middle School on Miles Lane, and park your car there or at Miles Lane School. Buses from First Student will bus runners to the starting line and back to your car from the finish line. PLEASE do not run or walk the bridge without our police/fire escort. Buses are warm, dry and we've got plenty of them!
All races end at the Verona Island Town Park, and we will provide a warm shuttle bus to get you back to your car at Bucksport Middle School or Miles Lane. Spectator parking on the Verona side of the bridge (finish line) is available at your first driveway (Island Pool & Spa) on your right, coming from Prospect. There is no parking at the Verona Town Park, and we must discourage you from parking on the road. Cars parked on Westside Drive near the finish line cause a safety risk for our runners, and you will be asked to move your car. Spectator parking also available at the Verona Town Hall and several businesses on Route 3 on Verona.
